Château Clarke. The book.

A unique book combining never-before-seen family archives, an exclusive interview with Ariane de Rothschild, his daughters, and Eric Boissenot, the estate's consultant oenologist. Through the eyes of Béatrice Brasseur, Erwan Balança, Georgie Hindle and Maya-Inès Touam, Château Clarke reveals itself through the seasons, from past to future. It's a journey to the heart of an exciting adventure begun by Edmond de Rothschild just 50 years ago...

Roots, leaves, flowers and fruit are the natural and symbolic threads that run through Château Clarke in this, the Rothschild family's first book dedicated to the estate.

The roots of the adventure lie in the creative impulse and family tradition. Then, just as the leaves and flowers blossom, the know-how and savoir vivre at Château Clarke are revealed to harvest the fruits of the vine. The highlight is a tasting of the estate's key vintages, staged by artist Maya-Inès Touam. In this very special and serene atmosphere at Château Clarke, vines, wines and gardens come together in symbiosis to create the same pleasure of living and the same aesthetic experience. Château Clarke extends this harmony to its wines, with subtle aromatic variations. This intimate book allows you to discover Château Clarke from vine to glass, from Baron Edmond de Rothschild to his daughter-in-law Ariane and his granddaughters, from the past to the future.

How do you express the simmer of a land, a wine, a man and a Château? How do you tell the story of Château Clarke?

Vines are nothing without people, and symbolically, everything brings them together. Like the vine, we have roots and need energy to grow; like the vine, we blossom in our prime and bear beautiful fruit when we reach maturity.
Roots, Leaves, Flowers, Fruit... Born, growing, prospering, generating, from season to season, from vintage to vintage, from generation to generation. It's the same story in mirror image. So to tell the story of Château Clarke in this beautiful book published by Editions de La Martinière, I've traced the furrows between the natural and the symbolic, intertwined the plant and the human, and cultivated the shimmer of metaphors.
The vines, the people... Château Clarke owes everything to its terroir and everything to the winegrowers who understand it, who inform it, who live in symbiosis with the elements, who bring out the best in the land to faithfully convey its message in the most harmonious of formulations: the wine.
Roots, Leaves, Flowers, Fruit... Fifty years ago, Edmond de Rothschild saw in Clarke the ‘challenge that matched his philosophy of life and nature as a gift to man’. It was here that he established his desire for a great wine. Fifty years of expert attention and creative vision, renewed thanks to the impetus of Ariane de Rothschild, now enable Château Clarke to reap the rewards of its ambition. And to reveal itself in all its dimensions: oenological, sensory and aesthetic. Harmonious and dazzling, in the blending of its grape varieties, as in these pages. Béatrice Brasseur
