The philosophy of Edmond de Rothschild Heritage embodies an art of living in which the land, people and centuries-old know-how combine to reveal the best that nature has to offer. Generation after generation, through their energy, curiosity and boldness, the Edmond de Rothschild family have perpetuated an ancient legacy that each day pays tribute to all epicureans.
Present on four continents,
Edmond de Rothschild has expertise in areas as varied as vineyards, gastronomy, hospitality and well-being.
But each of these fields obeys the same philosophy: to reveal its full potential in order to offer a unique epicurean experience, equally respectful of the land, people and their heritage.
Genesis

Genesis - The origins of a dynasty

The founding father of the Rothschilds was Mayer Amschel Rothschild, born in the early 18th century in Frankfurt. Fifty years later, through his verve and vigour, he had become the banker to the Crown Prince and several sovereigns. He then sent his five sons out to conquer the world from their bases in Frankfurt, Naples, Vienna, Paris and London. In industry, railways and raw materials, the Rothschild family financed entrepreneurs, charted new territories and embraced the changing world.
Some 250 years later, the new generation is supporting those seeking to change the world. In banking, philanthropy, medical research, art, winegrowing, social entrepreneurship and yacht-racing, the commitment of the Rothschild family is a mark of excellence and progress.
1920

1920 - The birth of a vision

At the very start of the Roaring Twenties, Baroness Noémie de Rothschild was looking for a mountain venue to rival the elegance of Saint Moritz, when she discovered the village of Megève.
Captivated by its beauty and grandiose environment – with Mont-Blanc just a stone’s throw away – she imagined a winter sports resort that would express the French art of living. It was also in 1920 that Société Française des Hôtels de Montagne was founded. A century later, not only has the dream come true, but its founding vision is as relevant as ever. Megève is now known as one of the most stunning mountain resorts.
Welcome to Mont d'Arbois
The Golf du Mont d'Arbois was created in 1923. It was the first mountain golf course in France. It went on to be redesigned and expanded by Edmond de Rothschild, the only son of Noémie and Maurice de Rothschild, assisted in his work by the famous professional golfer Henry Cotton.
1963

1963 - Acquisition of Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois

In 1963, to celebrate the restoration of the Palace des Neiges and mark the new generation of Megève, Baron Edmond de Rothschild organised a festival that would go on to become legendary: the Fête des 100 Heures du Mont d'Arbois. For the event, he purchased what would become the Chalets du Mont d'Arbois.
1973

1973 - The start of the wine adventure

Baron Edmond was a visionary and, like his illustrious family, a wine enthusiast. The co-owner of Château Lafite-Rothschild dreamed secretly of owning an intimate, discreet and as-yet little known vineyard, which he would transform into his masterpiece. In 1973, he acquired Château Clarke and Château Malmaison.

1991

1991 - Creation of the 30 Arpents dairy

In 1980, Edmond de Rothschild developed dairy farming on family land in Favières-en-Brie at the Domaine des Trente Arpents. He created his own dairy in 1991 to promote his farm’s milk and perpetuate artisanal know-how in the Brie country.
1997

1997 - Looking to the new world

In South Africa, Baron Edmond de Rothschild and Dr Anton Rupert (founder of the Remgro and Richemont groups) transformed the historic French farm Huguenot Friedricksburg into a vineyard, renamed Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons.
With the acquisition, Baron Edmond became one of the first French winemakers to invest in international wines. This initial partnership of the Compagnie Vinicole also marked the beginning of the group's development strategy aimed at revealing local terroirs to the four corners of the world.
1999

1999 - Growing vines at an altitude of 1,100 m

In 1999, Benjamin de Rothschild and Laurent Dassault joined forces to acquire land in the centre-west of the Argentine province of Mendoza and were among the first French investors in Vista Flores in the Uco Valley. Seeking to create a New World grand cru and a top-flight Argentine wine, they created the Flechas de los Andes bodega.
2003

2003 - Château des Laurets

In 2004, Benjamin and Ariane de Rothschild acquired Château des Laurets (AOC Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion), an 86-hectare property with two appellations: Puisseguin-Saint-Émilion and Montagne-Saint-Émilion.
2005

2005 - Champagne excellence

Two years after the acquisition of Château des Laurets, Benjamin and Ariane de Rothschild joined forces with the other two branches of the family to create Maison Champagne Barons de Rothschild.
2008

2008 - Acquisition of Pépinières de l’Ambre

In 2008, Société Française des Hôtels de Montagne acquired Pépinières de l'Ambre, a 95-hectare nursery near Lyon.
With its lush green spaces used to cultivate rare and delicate plant species, the Pépinières de l’Ambre nursery takes its name from the fragrance of conifer resin, which is similar to amber. The nursery meets a two-fold requirement: to perpetuate the excellence of ancestral gardening expertise and ensure the development of unique species.
2010

2010 - The birth of an exceptional cheese

Benjamin de Rothschild continued his father's business at the Ferme des 30 Arpents and innovated with the creation of the Fermier à la Truffe Noire du Périgord, the first truffle Brie. The recipe has often been imitated but never matched.
2012

2012 - The discovery of a gem

In 2012, Benjamin and Ariane de Rothschild bought 24 hectares of land in Marlborough Valley in New Zealand to create a celebrated sauvignon blanc, Rimapere.
2016

2016 - Birth of a brand

The Edmond de Rothschild Heritage brand was created with the resolute determination to give meaning to the exceptional.
This umbrella brand brings together a world of passions created by enthusiasts for enthusiasts in which each expertise set is raised to the rank of art. More than the hotels, wine and authentic products in themselves, it is an art of living.

The art of cultivating the land and its riches, the art of enhancing terroirs and the art of receiving.
2017

2017 - Destination Macán

It took eight years for Ariane and Benjamin de Rothschild, in partnership with Pablo Alvarez, to sculpt the vineyard of their dream in Spain's most prestigious wine region, La Rioja. Bodega Benjamin de Rothschild y Vega Sicilia was inaugurated in the presence of Spanish King Juan Carlos.
In the same year, Edmond de Rothschild Heritage opened the five-star Four Seasons Hotel Megeve at Mont d'Arbois, the first Four Seasons ski destination in Europe.
2020

2020 - Energy self-sufficiency

An anaerobic digestion unit was set up at the 30 Arpents family farm in 2020, producing 6,000,000 kWh of energy a year using residual items from cattle breeding, cheesemaking and crops. This green energy powers the farm and surrounding homes in a first step towards energy independence.
2021

2021 - Palacio de Samaniego, Spain

In 2021, Edmond de Rothschild Heritage opened its first hotel outside France, the Palacio de Samaniego, a four-star hotel in Rioja Alavesa in Spain.
With just nine rooms, the Palacio de Samaniego is an intimate haven of peace. Every stay here is an experience like no other, with artwork dotted throughout highlighting the contrast between the age-old stone and modern interior design.
Welcome to Palacio de Samaniego
2022

2022 - Revival of the Château de Malengin

Eve de Rothschild, one of the four daughters of Ariane and Benjamin de Rothschild, has contributed to the renewal of the Château de Malengin, acquired in 2003 by her parents, by giving her name to a new vintage.
With production limited to just a few thousand bottles, mostly aged in amphorae, the Eve cuvée succeeds in breaking with convention while honouring values dear to the family: boldness, excellence and transmission.
In 2022, Edmond de Rothschild Heritage strengthened its presence in New Zealand with the acquisition of Akarua, a 52-hectare estate in the prestigious Central Otago region. Set in a breathtaking landscape, Akarua is a true gem that won over Edmond de Rothschild Heritage with its exceptional terroir, allowing it to extend its range with a top-level pinot noir.
With the launch of Amistà in 2022, Edmond de Rothschild Heritage opened a new page in the sensory journey offered by the group's wines and took on the challenge of the great rosés of Provence.
2023

2023 - Revival of the Château Clarke

Thanks to the high standards and investment of the Edmond de Rothschild family, the excellence of its terroir and the expertise of its teams, Château Clarke is now ready to meet the challenges of the 21st century.
From 2020 to 2023, €18 million was invested in the renovation, optimisation and creation of the most efficient technical facilities for winemaking. The investment also served to accelerate the restructuring of the vineyard to adapt it to the effects of climate change. To perfect the most complete expression of the Château Clarke ecosystem and the estate as a whole, the vat rooms, cellars, tasting and reception rooms and gardens have been redesigned by artists placing the same emphasis on excellence and uniqueness.
