A great rosé of Provence to celebrate friendship

27 Jul 2022

Two wine personalities, two sunny temperaments come together under the Provence sky. “I wanted to create a rosé for a long time, and Amistà was born out of my collaboration with Valérie Rousselle, a friend with whom I share the same values of authenticity and joie de vivre,” explains Ariane de Rothschild.

Amistà literally translates as “friendship”, the result of the friendship between Baroness Ariane de Rothschild and Valerie Rousselle. The project was born out of the partnership of these two women who had the unique idea of creating an exceptional rosé.

“Rosé is often associated with a light, festive wine of lower quality, so I wanted to prove that it was possible to launch a superior rosé. A great challenge to tackle together with the search for perfection that has built Roubine’s reputation.” Ariane de Rothschild.

Resulting from a plot selection, Amistà benefits from Valérie Rousselle and her teams’ work to respect the soil and grapes. The owner since 1994 of Château Roubine, a classified vineyard with 72 hectares of vines in a single plot, Valérie Rousselle has made a major contribution to the revitalization of the fine wines of Provence.

She conducted biodynamic trials on the estate for about a decade, before obtaining organic certification in 2017. In 2020, the Demeter biodynamic agriculture certification capped off this pioneering environmental approach. This Provence Grand is a blend of 60% Grenache Noir, 20% Cinsault, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre and 5% Tibouren. The 2021 vintage was produced in very small quantities, only 5,000 bottles, in keeping with the desire for rarity.

“We discovered a wonderful terroir in a single plot, with an ideal exposure and a gradient that favours natural drainage. The clay-limestone soils are reminiscent of the Bordeaux region. The diversity of the grape varieties contributes to the complexity. It is a wonder to see so much freshness born from a sun-drenched earth. In this blend, we have sought to emphasize this balance, this crisp freshness that for us is the signature of Grands Crus.” Fabrice Bandiera, winemaker for Edmond de Rothschild Heritage.

Amistà has a pale, slightly coral colour with pink hues. The nose is both fresh and complex, revealing notes of white-fleshed fruits like peach and flowers. The intense and balanced mouth has a lovely length. It pairs well with grilled sea bream, a light tuna tartar or poultry with lemongrass. This lively and spontaneous wine is to be enjoyed with friends for a truly refreshing moment.
