2021 at Rimapere: a vintage to remember!

“2021 had big shoes to fill after the 2020 vintage, but it succeeded beautifully ! It started in a bang, with a strong budburst and the earliest to date at Rimapere.

Frost events and cold snaps around flowering reduced the yield potential for the whole Marlborough region. Happily, the rest of the season was dry and reasonably warm.

At Rimapere, the vines out did themselves and put on a show for us: the exceptional terroir and the regenerative ecosystem that we are creating allow the vines to develop in a close to perfect balance with the fruit.

Closer to harvest, the weather was settled with warm days and cold nights. Those were ideal conditions for the fruit concentration, great flavor accumulation and acid retention! We were able to taste and pick for the optimum flavor to acid balance for the given wine style.

This amazing fruit quality allowed the winery team to work peacefully and at the top of their art. We captured the Rimapere terroir expression as purely as possible into the bottles.

We are very proud of the multilayered complexity of the Rimapere 2021 wines we created! The fruit expression is intense with lifted aromatics and an excellent concentration, but also, the structure is elegant, the slightly woody and baked overtones are subtle, and a ripe acid line enhances the persistence.

Although yields were lower than one would like, quality is very impressive. It will be a vintage to remember.”
