Driven by their desire to find the best terroirs and local grape varieties, Benjamin and Ariane de Rothschild aspired to produce a great wine in Spain. Their meeting with Pablo Alvarez, owner of Vega Sicilia, marked the beginning of this ambitious project. With a shared vision of authenticity and expertise, and the desire to make this project last, it took the two families seven years and 70 acquisitions to establish the 110 hectare vineyard in Rioja Alta, Spain’s premier wine region. Combining technological prowess and traditional expertise, Bodega Benjamin de Rothschild & Vega Sicilia produces two exquisite wines: Macán and Macán Clásico. They both embody the best characteristics of the region’s traditional varietal, Tempranillo.
